Common Thickness Specifications of Fireproof Rock Wool Board & Reference for Engineering Selection

Views:

Fireproof rock wool board is a Class A non-combustible inorganic insulation material widely used in external wall insulation, curtain wall fire containment, roof insulation, steel structure fire cladding and other projects. Board thickness directly affects thermal insulation performance and fire resistance rating. Langfang Haochen Insulation Materials Co., Ltd sorts out common market thickness specifications and selection standards for different scenarios to help construction companies and purchasers with material selection.

Fireproof rock wool board — Standard stock thickness (unit: mm)

30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 120, 150, 180, 200

Regular production range: 30mm~200mm. Custom cutting can be negotiated for sizes outside this range.

Standard panel dimension: 1200mm×600mm, non-standard sizes available for custom processing.

Common Thickness Specifications of Fireproof Rock Wool Board & Reference for Engineering Selection

II. Recommended Thickness for Different Engineering Projects

1. Curtain wall fire containment strips

Common thickness: 50mm, 80mm, 100mm; high-rise curtain wall interlayer fire blocking generally requires high-density fireproof rock wool board ≥100mm to effectively block vertical flame spread.

2. External wall thermal insulation (vertical-fibre water-repellent fireproof rock wool board)

Main options for North China: 80mm, 100mm;

Projects with lower energy-saving requirements: 50mm, 60mm; 120–150mm can be adopted for severe cold regions.

For external wall projects, 140kg/m³ and 160kg/m³ vertical-fibre fireproof rock wool boards are preferred, complying with JGJ/T480.

3. Roof insulation & steel structure fire protection

Common options: 80mm, 100mm, 120mm, 150mm. High-density fireproof rock wool board of 160–180kg/m³ is mostly selected for better compression resistance and moisture resistance.

4. Machine room sound absorption & fire protection for internal partition walls

Horizontal-fibre fireproof rock wool board of 50mm and 80mm is commonly used, balancing sound absorption and basic fire protection requirements.

III. Key Points on Relationship Between Thickness, Density and Fire Resistance Rating

Fireproof rock wool is uniformly Class A non-combustible material, but fire resistance rating is not equivalent to fire classification.

Under the same density: thicker boards deliver longer fire and heat blocking duration; with identical thickness, higher density brings more stable structure and better fire resistance performance.

Water repellent treatment will not alter the Class A fire performance of rock wool. Water-repellent fireproof rock wool board is recommended for humid working conditions such as external walls and roofs.

IV. Important Purchasing Reminders

Material selection for engineering projects cannot rely merely on thickness. It is necessary to confirm density, vertical/horizontal fibre type, water repellency and A1/A2 combustion grade simultaneously. Mesh cloth and insulation anchors can be adopted in construction to form a complete thermal and fire insulation system.

Langfang Haochen Insulation Materials Co., Ltd supplies Class A fireproof rock wool boards of various thicknesses from stock. We also supply rock wool blankets, rock wool strips, rock wool pipe sections, rock wool composite panels, alkali-resistant mesh cloth and insulation anchors. Custom specifications are supported and product test reports can be provided. We offer one-stop supply for various building insulation projects in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Welcome to consult quotations with drawing parameters.
