Is Class A Rock Wool Board Toxic? Common Specifications Summary

Many project owners pay close attention to this question when selecting materials: whether Class A fireproof rock wool board contains toxic substances, and whether installation and long-term service will endanger human health. Combining product material features and practical application cases, Langfang Haochen Insulation Materials Co., Ltd gives a detailed explanation. We also sort out mainstream specification parameters of fireproof rock wool board to support procurement and material selection.

 I. Is Class A fireproof rock wool board toxic?

Class A fireproof rock wool board is manufactured from natural rocks such as basalt and diabase, processed into inorganic mineral fibres via high-temperature melting and centrifugal spinning. Finished rock wool boards contain no toxic or hazardous ingredients and are harmless under normal usage conditions.

1. After full installation and proper rendering protection on the outer layer, fibres are sealed and cannot float in the air, so there is no health risk during daily use;

2. Key reminder for construction work: cutting and sanding rock wool produces fine fibrous dust. Fibres may cause skin irritation and itchiness, and inhaled dust can irritate the respiratory tract. Construction workers must wear dust masks, protective overalls and gloves for adequate protection;

3. Clarify common misconceptions: unlike organic insulation materials, rock wool will not release highly toxic smoke when exposed to fire. Qualified rock wool resists mould growth and does not emit formaldehyde, VOC or other harmful gases, complying with relevant standards for indoor building applications.

4. Friendly reminder: fibres of aged, damaged and long-term exposed rock wool boards are prone to dispersion. Surface sealing protection must be fully implemented during insulation construction.
