Haochen Rock Wool Blanket for Steam Pipelines is a flexible rolled thermal insulation material developed specifically for high-temperature steam heating networks, boiler steam pipework within plant sites and high-temperature chemical process pipelines. Manufactured via basalt melting and centrifugal fibre formation, it delivers superior flexibility compared with rigid rock wool slabs. It is the preferred fire-resistant thermal insulation material for long-distance steam pipelines and irregular fittings such as bends, tees and valves.
1. Raw Materials & Core Performance Parameters
1.1 Raw Material Composition
Fabricated from premium basalt combined with diabase, melted at 1450°C and fibreised by high-speed centrifugal spinning to form interwoven fibres. Free from asbestos, formaldehyde and hazardous volatile substances, it is an eco-friendly inorganic insulation material. Low-chlorine formulation is available on request and will not corrode carbon steel or stainless steel steam pipe walls.
1.2 Key Technical Properties (Optimised for High-temperature Steam Operating Conditions)
Temperature Resistance (Core Advantage)Continuous operating temperature up to 600°C, with short-term peak temperature resistance reaching 1000°C. Fully suited for saturated and superheated steam pipework operating between 150°C and 550°C. It exhibits no shrinkage, carbonisation or powdering under high temperatures, maintaining stable thermal insulation performance over long service life.
Fire Classification: Class A1 Non-combustibleIt will not ignite under direct flame exposure, produces no molten slag droplets and releases no toxic fumes, satisfying mandatory fire acceptance requirements for boiler houses and chemical plant facilities.
Thermal Insulation: Thermal conductivity ≤0.040 W/(m·K)Porous fibre structure forms trapped stationary air pockets to retain heat, cutting heat loss along steam pipelines by over 75% and substantially reducing boiler fuel consumption with remarkable energy-saving benefits.
Additional Properties
Acoustic Absorption: Attenuates vibration noise generated by fluid flow inside pipes and reduces on-site noise pollution.
Corrosion & Moisture Resistance: Chemically stable, resisting attack from condensate and water vapour to slow pipe corrosion.
Hydrophobic Version Available: Extremely low water absorption, suitable for humid underground pipe networks and overhead outdoor heating pipelines.
2. Main Specifications (Customisable to Project Requirements)
Standard Dimensions
Width: 600mm (common size for pipe installation)
Thickness: 50mm, 60mm, 80mm, 100mm (50mm and 80mm widely adopted for steam pipeline projects)
Roll Length: Can be cut to 3m as required; longer rolls minimise joints and thermal leakage points
Density: 80, 90, 100, 120kg/m³ (100~120kg/m³ recommended for steam pipelines for enhanced compressive stability and resistance to settlement)
Three Facing Options
Unfaced Rock Wool Blanket: Basic cost-effective grade, mainly used for inner insulation of steam pipes inside underground trenches.
Single-sided Aluminium Foil Faced Rock Wool Blanket (Best-seller for Steam Pipelines) The aluminium foil facing provides dual functions of heat reflection and vapour resistance, preventing moisture ingress which causes insulation failure. It is the primary selection for overhead outdoor pipework and external heating networks.
Galvanised Wire Mesh Reinforced Rock Wool Blanket: Galvanised steel wire mesh stitched to the inner surface, offering high tensile and tear resistance. Suitable for large-diameter high-temperature pipework and pipelines subject to frequent vibration; the blanket remains intact without loosening or cracking after wrapping.
3. Unique Benefits of Blanket Compared with Rock Wool Pipe Sections
Seamless Wrapping for Irregular FittingsRigid rock wool pipe sections create numerous joints and significant heat leakage when applied to irregular components including bends, tees, flanges and reducers. Rock wool blanket can be freely bent and rolled to closely conform to components of all curvatures, eliminating dead zones and thermal bridges for superior insulation tightness.
Faster Installation for Long-distance Pipe RunsContinuous wrapping of straight pipe sections using full rolls creates far fewer joints than segmented preformed pipe sections, cutting labour hours by more than 30%.
Reusable for Maintenance WorkThe rock wool blanket can be re-wrapped after removal during pipeline maintenance, lowering material wastage. Rock wool pipe sections are generally non-reusable once stripped off.
4. Standard Installation Procedure (General for Steam Pipeline Insulation)
Clean, abrade and apply anti-corrosive primer to the pipe surface.
Wrap rock wool blanket circumferentially around pipework with staggered joints. For double-layer insulation, gaps between inner and outer layers shall be offset by at least 100mm.
Secure using galvanised wire or insulation clips at 200mm intervals.
Install aluminium foil glass fabric vapour retarder on the outer layer; add steel or aluminium sheet cladding for outdoor applications.
Cut and wrap valves and fittings separately to eliminate insulation gaps.
5. Typical Applications
District heating high-temperature steam networks and boiler house pipework; Superheated steam transmission pipelines for power plants and combined heat & power plants; High-temperature process steam pipework for petroleum, chemical, printing & dyeing and food manufacturing plants; Thermal and acoustic insulation for boiler bodies, steam separators and heat exchanger vessels.
