Will it burn? Fire safety & non-combustible building materials

Many customers, when purchasing thermal insulation materials, are most concerned about one question: will the insulation boards catch fire, and are they safe in case of fire?

We, Haochen Insulation, are a professional manufacturer of thermal insulation boards. The basalt rock wool boards we produce are Class A non-combustible building materials; mineral wool boards are also Class A non-combustible building materials. Though both are non-combustible insulation products, they differ in raw materials and performance focus.

Basalt rock wool boards are made mainly from basalt ore, which is melted at high temperature and spun into inorganic fibers by centrifugal blowing. The base material itself cannot be ignited by open flames, does not support combustion or spread flames. The synthetic binder inside the board only melts at ultra-high temperatures above 1000°C. This process produces no open flame and does not release large amounts of toxic smoke.

In projects such as exterior walls, roofs, machine rooms, ventilation ducts and industrial equipment insulation, the fire resistance of insulation materials is critical to fire safety. Ordinary combustible insulation materials burn rapidly when exposed to fire, produce molten drips and dense smoke, which greatly increase fire risks. In contrast, rock wool boards can effectively block flames and slow down fire spread, buying precious time for evacuation and fire rescue. They meet fire inspection requirements for civil buildings, industrial workshops, food workshops and other types of projects.

Besides outstanding fire resistance, rock wool boards deliver excellent thermal insulation performance. Their thermal conductivity is as low as 0.04 W/mK, with an operating temperature range from -150°C to +650°C, performing stably under both high-temperature and low-temperature working conditions. The material is chemically inert, resistant to chemicals, non-shrinking and low in water absorption. Under standard installation and normal operating conditions, its service life can reach up to 50 years.

Rock wool boards are easy to cut and flexible for installation. Aluminum foil, fiberglass cloth facings or metal cladding can be supplied on request. They are suitable for indoor, outdoor, overhead and equipment tank applications. The boards feature a solid structure, resistant to deformation under vibration and temperature cycling. They also provide good sound insulation, making them multi-functional boards integrating thermal insulation, fire protection and sound absorption.

Mineral wool boards also feature reliable fire and heat insulation properties. They differ from rock wool boards in material selection and production process, and can be selected flexibly according to project budget and working conditions.

As the manufacturer, we strictly control the quality of every batch to ensure stable fire resistance and thermal insulation indicators. Please note: rock wool boards themselves are non-combustible, yet the overall fire performance of the insulation system relies on standardized installation. Installation must comply with local building codes for thermal insulation of equipment, pipelines and buildings.
