Hydrophobic rock wool pipe sections are tubular thermal insulation products specially designed for pipework. Manufactured from premium basalt ore, the material is melted and drawn into inorganic mineral fibres at 1400°C. High-efficiency hydrophobic agent is uniformly incorporated during production before integral curing and forming. Classified as A1 non-combustible pipe insulation, it is also known as A1 fire-resistant rock wool pipe insulation.
Suitable for heating pipelines, steam pipelines and hot & cold water supply pipework, the product integrates three core properties: fire resistance and high-temperature tolerance, thermal energy saving and hydrophobic moisture resistance. It can be applied to indoor plant room pipework, underground trench pipelines and overhead outdoor pipe networks, making it a commonly used primary insulation material for HVAC and industrial heating systems. Haochen Insulation operates in-house production lines, implementing full-process control over raw material proportioning, hydrophobic treatment and dimensional accuracy to guarantee consistent product performance, which can smoothly pass project acceptance and fire testing.
1. Core Advantages: Hydrophobic Moisture Resistance + A1 Fire & High-Temperature Resistance
1.1 A1 Non-combustible Fire Performance for Safe High-Temperature Operation
Hydrophobic rock wool pipe sections are inorganic mineral building materials with A1 fire classification and no combustible constituents, delivering outstanding fire resistance. The maximum continuous operating temperature reaches 650°C. When used for boiler house steam pipes, power station heating pipelines and high-temperature process pipework in chemical plants, the insulation will not ignite, release toxic irritant fumes or produce molten droplets, effectively restraining fire spread.
It is suitable for cladding pipework in flammable and explosive workshops, site boiler houses and fire service associated pipelines, complying with fire regulations and reducing rework for non-compliance. Its porous fibre structure provides inherent sound absorption, attenuating noise generated by fluid flow and equipment vibration in pipework, meeting acoustic requirements for plant rooms and building service pipe runs.
1.2 Integral Hydrophobic Modification – Waterproof & Moisture Resistant to Prevent Insulation Degradation
This is the key advantage of hydrophobic rock wool pipe sections compared with standard rock wool pipe: Hydrophobic additives are blended uniformly into the raw material, delivering stable bulk hydrophobic performance that restricts water penetration into fibre voids. Underground pipelines, basement pump rooms, trenches and damp plant rooms contain high ambient moisture. Ordinary rock wool readily absorbs water, gains weight and suffers fibre collapse, leading to rapid deterioration of thermal performance and requiring replacement within just a few years.
Even under prolonged damp exposure or occasional water splashing, hydrophobic rock wool pipe sections do not absorb large volumes of water, retaining stable thermal insulation over the service life. The material is acid and alkali resistant, suited to corrosive humid chemical operating conditions, extending service life and substantially cutting maintenance and replacement costs.
2. Outstanding Thermal Insulation to Reduce Pipeline Energy Consumption
Interwoven fluffy fibres inside the pipe sections form enclosed air pockets with low thermal conductivity and robust heat retention. When fitted around high-temperature steam and heating hot-water pipelines, heat loss is markedly reduced, boosting heating efficiency and cutting boiler fuel and electricity expenditure.
When applied to chilled water pipelines for central air conditioning systems, it prevents condensation and dripping on pipe surfaces, protecting suspended ceilings and wall finishes from water damage. When installed on outdoor water supply and drainage pipelines in northern regions during winter, it provides anti-freeze protection and guards against pipe rupture caused by low temperatures.
3. Simple Installation to Save Labour and Time
The prefabricated hollow cylindrical pipe sections feature a longitudinal split along one side, with consistent circularity and uniform wall thickness. They can be opened and fitted directly over steel and galvanised pipework.
Sections can be cut easily with a utility knife and trimmed for tight-fitting joints at bends and reducers without hollowing or gaps. For outdoor service conditions, foil-faced hydrophobic rock wool pipe sections are recommended for superior sealing, water resistance, UV protection and anti-ageing performance. Straightforward installation shortens construction periods and reduces labour costs.
Free from asbestos, formaldehyde and other hazardous substances, the product is low-odour and safe for installation in enclosed indoor spaces including residential blocks, shopping centres and hospitals.
